Zoo City FC Secures First Franchise Win Against PAO Chicago

Zoo City FC (Kalamazoo, MI) went on the road to Grand Sports Arena on Sunday to take on PAO Chicago. It was the home debut for PAO, and the first road trip for Zoo City.
The home team would put the first two goals on the board in the first minute and thirty-eight seconds. After a high-scoring first half on both sides, the Zoo City halftime lead sat at 11-7, which they would not relinquish.
A classic shootout, the match saw 26 total goals scored. That figure stands as the 2nd-highest total of the WMLIS season to date.
The 2nd half scoring was 4-4. Zoo City’s Susana Roberts netted a PK at the :52 mark to bring the final score to 15-11 for the road team. Zoo City’s Emily Vargas earned Woman of the Match, netting a franchise-record four goals and assisting on 2 more.
Zoo City’s first win in franchise history put them at 1-1 on the season, leaving them a half-game behind the Chicago Mustangs. PAO Chicago came up short to fall to 0-3 on the season. Zoo City will be back at Grand Sports Arena on Sunday, Feb. 16.
